Gyrotrons are used for Electron Cyclotron Resonance Heating (ECRH) and Electron Cyclotron Current Drive (ECCD) of plasmas in magnetically confined fusion machines like tokamaks and stellarators for heating the plasma and suppressing plasma instabilities. Gyrotrons largely improve plasma diagnostic processes, such as collective Thomson scattering and heat-pulse propagation experiments.
