X-Band ODNP Flow Resonator

Overhauser Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (ODNP) spectroscopy is a typically used for hydration dynamic studies at or near bio-macromolecules, membrane proteins, or other solid/liquid interfaces. However, ODNP can also be used to enhance the signal intensity in low-field flow NMR spectroscopy.

ODNP flow resonator for permanent magnets

THe Bridge12 flow resonator is optimized for operation in a Halbach magnet (~0.35 T), similar to the one described by Muenneman et al.. The resonator features an integrated NMR coil to monitor the DNP-enhanced NMR signal intensity in-situ. The single-channel NMR circuit can be tuned over a wide range of NMR nuclei (13C to 1H). With small modifications the resonator can be mounted in every standard x-band electro magnet for EPR spectroscopy.

The Bridge12 flow ODNP resonator is easily installed in Halbach array. The RF tuning and resonator iris mechanism is conveniently located at the top of probe. RF and microwave connections as easily accessible as well as the flow connections.

Extended homogenous B1e region

Extended homogenous B1e region

The honogenous region of the B1e is > 12.5 mm along the resonator axis, allowing larger sample volumes to be polarized efficiently. The maximum sample access is 4 mm. For larger sample diameters, the NMR coil can be easily removed by the user. The resonator has a conversion factor of > 3 G/sqrt(W) for efficient sample polarization with minimal microwave-induced sample heating.

Technical Specifications

  • EPR operating frequency: 9.5 GHz
  • Broadband single-channel NMR circuit. NMR operating freqeuncy: 3 - 15 MHz (13C to 1H at 0.35 T).
  • Maximum sample diameter 4 mm. To increase the sample access to 6 mm the NMR coil can be removed by the user.
  • Unloaded resonator Q: > 3100. For optimum performance probe requires flow of clean, dry air (> 5 lpm)
